Brooklyn, NY: Today, Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest announced that she will run for reelection. Forrest has represented Central Brooklyn in the New York State Assembly since 2021 after running a grassroots campaign that rejected all corporate and real-estate donations and unseated a seven-year incumbent. While in office, Assemblymember Forrest has passed laws to increase parole justice and to raise taxes on the wealthy in support of greater social services; fought for comprehensive healthcare for all New Yorkers; and advocated for protections for workers, families, and tenants.

“I initially decided to run for office to fight for my neighbors, who are suffering because of luxury development, high rents, police brutality, and an inhumane healthcare system,” Forrest said. “In Albany, I’ve worked hard to pass legislation that empowers working-class people, and I intend to continue fighting on behalf of working people during my second term.”

ABOUT PHARA SOUFFRANT FORREST: Phara is a union nurse, tenant organizer, democratic socialist, and New York State Assemblymember representing the 57th District, which includes the neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, and western portions of Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant. Forrest has pledged to never take any corporate donations.
